| Food Pairing Guide | This fresh, fruit-led Chardonnay is a versatile match for lighter dishes. Try it with grilled white fish, prawns in garlic butter, lemon butter scallops or a simple plate of sushi and sashimi. It also goes well with roast or grilled chicken, chicken Caesar salad or pork with apple. Its creamy texture and clean finish suit pasta with a light cream or lemon sauce, a prawn or asparagus risotto, and soft cheeses such as Brie or a young Cheddar. For a summery match, serve it with a Niçoise salad, melon and prosciutto or a crab and avocado salad. It’s also easy to enjoy on its own, chilled to around 10 to 12°C. |
Diemersdal Unwooded Chardonnay shows how expressive Chardonnay can be when it’s left to speak for itself. The grapes are grown on the Louw family’s estate in Durbanville, close to the Atlantic, where cool sea breezes and clay-rich soils let the fruit ripen gently while keeping its natural freshness. Picked at night and made entirely in stainless steel, the wine never sees oak. Instead, around four months on its fine lees gives it texture and roundness while keeping the fruit pure and vibrant.
In the glass it is a pale straw colour, with an elegant nose of crisp apple, sweet melon and ripe peach. The palate is full of flavour, with a fresh note of lime that keeps it lively, and the time on lees gives it a smooth, creamy texture. Balanced acidity carries it through to a clean, lingering finish. It’s an easy, satisfying Chardonnay for everyday drinking, and it pairs well with seafood, chicken, light pasta dishes and summer salads.
