| Food Pairing Guide | This juicy, approachable red blend is a great all-rounder at the dinner table. It’s perfect with beef, from a weeknight steak or burger to a slow-cooked cottage pie or spaghetti Bolognese. Lamb works beautifully too, whether rosemary and garlic lamb chops, a roast leg of lamb or lamb koftas. Its soft tannins and red fruit mean it also suits roast chicken, duck with a cherry sauce, or venison sausages with mash. For a relaxed evening, serve it with a pepperoni or mushroom pizza, barbecued ribs or a South African braai. It goes well with a cheeseboard of mature Cheddar or Gouda. The chocolate notes make it a fun partner for a square or two of dark chocolate. |
Diemersdal Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot brings together two noble red grapes in a generous, crowd-pleasing blend from the Louw family’s Durbanville estate. Here, cooling breezes from the Atlantic help the vineyards produce ripe, flavoursome fruit with a natural freshness. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its backbone and depth, while Merlot adds plush, juicy fruit and a soft, rounded texture. Eight months of maturation with French oak brings the two together and adds a gentle layer of spice and polish.
In the glass it is a deep ruby red, with an inviting nose of ripe red fruit. The palate is juicy and smooth, with layers of cherry and mulberry and a rich note of dark chocolate. Soft, well-rounded tannins make it easy to enjoy now, and the finish is warm and fruity. It’s a versatile red that suits a midweek supper as well as a weekend gathering, and it’s especially good with steak, lamb, pizza and anything from the barbecue.
