Glen Carlou Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the estate’s signature balance of power and elegance. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry are complemented by hints of cedar, tobacco, and subtle spice from French oak maturation. The palate is full-bodied yet smooth, with structured tannins supporting concentrated fruit flavors and balanced acidity. This Cabernet is versatile at the table, pairing well with rich meats and mature cheeses, and it develops further complexity with careful cellaring, rewarding those who appreciate a classic, expressive South African Cabernet.
“Ripe blackberry and cherry aromas follow through onto the palate, framing mint and dark chocolate complexity. Fine silky rounded tannins and delightfully lively pomegranate-like acidity contribute to the volume and weight of fruit exploding across the palate, lending tremendous depth and length of flavour”. (Johnnie Calitz - Winemaker)
This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak, producing a full-bodied wine with rich dark fruit, balanced acidity, and firm but polished tannins suitable for medium- to long-term ageing.
Fruit for this wine was hand harvested from 10 different sites around the Simonsberg Mountain. The diversity of the vineyard sites, within proximity to each other, facilitates the production of high-quality wines. Individual lots were kept separate, from picking through fermentation, and maturation until final blending.
Glen Carlou is committed to sustainable viticulture and is accredited by South Africa’s Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme, which promotes environmentally responsible farming practices.
