Vriesenhof Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of Stellenbosch's flagship grape, grown on the weathered granite and clay-rich soils of the Vriesenhof estate on the foothills of the Stellenbosch Mountain. Hand-picked in the cool of the morning, the wine shows youthful, bright red colour and varietal notes of cassis, redcurrant and liquorice, marrying well with fine oak aromas for a complex nose. The densely structured palate delivers compact, chalky tannins alongside classic Cabernet fruit, with 15 months in second-, third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels adding real complexity and length. A savoury, food-friendly red, it's built for grilled red meat, lamb chops, aged sirloin steak or a good hearty stew.
This Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch is grown on a mix of weathered granite Hutton and Clovelly soils with high clay content, which helps retain water through the region's dry summers. The grapes are manually picked in the cool of the morning and matured for 15 months in second-, third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels, a combination of 225L and 300L.
