Vriesenhof Barrel Fermented Chardonnay continues one of founder Jan "Boland" Coetzee's legacy wines, made using the estate's own refined clonal selections and a classical, age-old approach to barrel fermentation. Rich yellow-gold in the glass, it shows aromas of apricots, dried pear and marzipan, complemented by plush oak characters of vanilla pod and subtle toasty notes. The richly textured palate is lifted by limey acidity, revealing flavours of Cape gooseberries and sun-ripened Granny Smith apples, with creamy lees character rounding out a long, flavoursome finish. Fermented and matured for 12 months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak, it's a wine of real depth and refinement — built to pair beautifully with richer seafood dishes.
100% Chardonnay from Stellenbosch. The grapes are pressed whole-bunch without destemming, with the juice settled overnight before inoculation, then fermented and matured in 20% new French oak (500L and 228L barrels), with the remainder in second- and third-fill French oak, for 12 months.
