Vriesenhof Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve marks a new milestone for the estate, grown on the decomposed granite and shale soils of the Paradyskloof Valley on the foothills of the Helderberg, where viticulturist Damien Cadle's approach starts firmly in the vineyard. The wine opens with bright red cherry fruit, hints of cassis and a touch of cocoa powder — character grown into the grapes rather than added through oak or cellar technique. Youthful fine-grained tannins and firm structure give it real poise, already balanced and generous, with time in bottle set to soften the tannins further into the luxurious texture mature Cabernet is known for. A wine made through patience and respect for what Stellenbosch Cabernet can be, it's one for the cellar as much as the table — pour it alongside aged steak, roast beef or a well-matured cheese.
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch grown on decomposed granite and shale soils in the Paradyskloof Valley, it's matured for 15 months in second-, third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels, a combination of 225L and 300L.
