| Food Pairing Guide | This smooth, fruit-forward red blend is a great all-rounder for hearty food. It’s perfect with steak, a beef stew or BBQ beef short ribs, and just as good with lamb chops, lamb stew or a roast leg of lamb with rosemary. Its blackcurrant fruit and gentle spice work well with game such as venison sausages or a rich game pie. For relaxed meals, try it with burgers, cottage pie, spaghetti Bolognese or a meaty pizza. Vegetarians could try a mushroom and red wine casserole, a lentil shepherd’s pie or roasted aubergine with tomato and herbs. It’s also lovely with mature Cheddar or a smoked cheese. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16 to 18°C. |
Chamonix Rouge is the friendly face of one of Franschhoek’s most respected estates. Chamonix is celebrated for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and its flagship red blend, Troika, and the Rouge brings the same estate-grown quality to an easy-drinking, everyday Bordeaux-style blend. The grapes come from Chamonix’s own vineyards, tucked against the slopes of the Mont Rochelle mountains, where clay-rich soils and cooling breezes produce ripe, flavourful fruit with real freshness. The fruit is picked by hand, sorted carefully and fermented to bring out its colour, fruit and soft structure.
In the glass it is a deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The nose is expressive, with blackcurrant, red berries, gentle spice and a subtle note of cedar. The palate is juicy and smooth, with plenty of ripe dark fruit and soft, rounded tannins, finishing long with a touch of savoury oak spice. It’s a versatile, crowd-pleasing red for steak, lamb and barbecues, and for relaxed evenings with friends. It’s delicious now and will keep for a few years.
