Kershaw Wines Clonal Selection Elgin Pinot Noir 2021 is a pure, precision expression of cool-climate Elgin Pinot Noir from Richard Kershaw MW, South Africa's only winemaking Master of Wine. Defined by its purity of fruit, focus and freshness, the wine layers black cherry, pomegranate, rose petal and raspberry over fine, powdery tannins on a deliciously succulent palate. It is built from seven tiny Elgin parcels and four Pinot Noir clones — predominantly 777 and 115 — grown on sandstone, granite and clay soils, with each clone and soil type micro-vinified separately before blending. Matured for 10–11 months in French oak from a small selection of Burgundy coopers (25% new in 2021), the wine was tasted and assessed every six weeks throughout ageing before minimal fining and light filtration. A rare, tiny-production wine from one of South Africa's most cerebral producers, classed as a First Growth in the 2026 South Africa Report by Tim Atkin MW.

Made in tiny quantities, Richard Kershaw MW's wines are always in high demand. Born in Sheffield, Richard trained and worked as a chef before discovering wine. After extensive travelling he settled in South Africa in 1999, and by 2009 he was Group Winemaker at Mulderbosch and Kanu. He established Kershaw Wines in 2012, specialising in the cool-climate wines of Elgin. Being one of the few MWs to make his own wine, he uses his vast knowledge to craft stunning wines that are easily a match for some of the world's very best wines. In 2026, Kershaw Wines was classed as a First Growth in the South Africa Report by Tim Atkin MW.

Selected from seven tiny Elgin parcels, this cuvée is built from four Pinot Noir clones — mostly 777 and 115, with lesser amounts of 113 and 667 — grown across sandstone, granite and clay soils. Each clone and soil type was micro-vinified separately, with barrels sourced exclusively from a small group of Burgundy coopers using only French oak (25% new in 2021). The wine matured for around 10–11 months, tasted and logged every six weeks, before light filtration and bottling with minimal fining.
