Rocca Sveva Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso is a great wine and one of our favourites here at Lekker Wines. Ripasso is made by adding pressed dried grapes to a vat of normal Valpolicella to add richness and intensity. A gorgeous ruby red colour, the inviting aromas of cherry, blackberry and vanilla are intense and concentrated. Those flavours show up on the palate in an elegant, soft and velvety wine with smooth tannins. A great wine to have at Christmas or with a Sunday roast.
The vineyards are located in the Valpolicella DOC zone, near the villages of Val di Mezzane, Illasi and Cazzone di Tramigna.
The Valpolicella wine is 're-passed' for 11-14 days over the freshly fermented pomace/lees of the grapes that have made the Amarone. The 're-passing' gives the wine more structure and an appealing roundness. 30% of the wine is matured in oak barriques and 70% in large oak botti for 12-18 months. Teh wine is further aged for 6 months in the bottle.
