Melini Granaio Chianti Classico is the big brother to the San Lorenzo, hailing from selected vineyards in the oldest area of the Chianti appellation (which has since been expanded). The aromas are intense and complex with mixed berries, ripe grapes and a subtle hint of vanilla and violets. A punchy wine with defined and structured tannins, and a lingering aftertaste of homemade jam and almonds. A lovely example of this famous Italian wine.
Selected parcels on the splendid hills of Castellina in Chianti, in the Sienese part of the classic zone, at 300-400 metres above sea level.The vines are trained by the guyot and spurred cordon system on well-exposed medium- textured soils containing much alberese and galestro. Yields per hectare are restricted.
The grapes are hand-picked from the first week of October onwards and vinified by the red wine method after a short period of cold pre-fermentation. Fermentation lasts about 15 days with frequent remontages. Then the wine is aged in French oak to give balance and smoothness.
