Domaine de la Chartreuse’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic Southern Rhône red, offering a powerful yet refined expression of the region’s famed terroir. Made from a traditional blend dominated by Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre, it delivers layers of ripe blackberry, plum, and cherry, seasoned with black pepper, garrigue herbs, and subtle oak. The palate is plush and warming, with fine tannins and a long, spicy finish. A superb food wine and a standout example of Châteauneuf’s rich, complex style.
The estate covers 15 hectares in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, 6 hectares in Côtes du Rhône, and 5 hectares classified as Vin de Pays. The average vine age is around 40 years.
Grapes for this Châteauneuf-du-Pape are sourced from plots in three communes: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bédarrides, and Sorgues. Vineyards are located in the districts of Cansaud, Coteaux St-Jean, Font de Michelle, and Plan du Rhône.
Harvesting is done by hand at full ripeness, with partial de-stemming. Fermentation takes place over 21 days in concrete vats, followed by 12 months of ageing in oak barrels.
The vineyards are planted on soils rich in large pebbles (“galets roulés”), which retain the sun’s heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, promoting optimal ripening.
