Depasso Nero d'Avolo is an expertly blended Passito 'light', if you like. The winemaker, Fabrizio, blends some of his flagship Nero d'Avola wine, which has purity and classic Italian character, with wine made from dried grapes (passito), which adds a touch of richness and layers of dried fruit flavours.
Fabrizio Vella is a Sicilian, who grew up pretty much among the vines. He studied at the University of Palermo and attained a degree in Oenology. He travelled to Australia for a year to complete his winemaking education before starting work in the Normanno winery where he leads a passionate team.
Nero d'Avola is perfect for winemaker Fabrizio Vella's approach. This wine is made with the appassimento method, using passito (dried) grapes. Fabrizio blends two parcels of Nero d'Avola to achieve balance and freshness.
