February saw us tasting Italan wines with Claudio....

Claudio, wine supplier and Lekker Wines Italian wine friend, originally from Verona, kindly came up from the big smoke (loaded with Italian cheese and Wild Boar Salami) to chat to a full house with the fire roaring and the glasses gleaming in the newly redecorated and modernised Dalesbridge Bar.

Tasters enjoyed a delicious Prosecco to start, followed by a superb Traditional Method Franciacorta. The wine list then included interesting Italian grapes like Falanghina, Cortese, Barbera d’Alba as well as other well-known grapes like Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel (Primitivo by another name) and an exquisite barrel aged Chardonnay to name a few. Claudio informally chatted about wine growing regions, their grapes and their nuances which ranged from the Veneto in the North all the way to Etna in Sicily, with Tuscany, Puglia among others discussed and tasted along the way.

The evening finished with an aromatic and fruity Falanghnia Passito dessert wine (and then for those who were brave enough, a selection of Italian gins.)
