The Backsberg Pumphouse Shiraz captures the richness and character of Paarl’s sun-drenched vineyards. Crafted from hand-selected Shiraz grapes, the wine is aged for up to 18 months in a mix of French and American oak, adding layers of depth and spice. Aromas of ripe blackberries, mulberries, and dark cherries unfold alongside hints of mocha, black pepper, and subtle mint. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with fine tannins and a lively freshness that balance the fruit. Smooth and lingering, it finishes with notes of dark chocolate and oak spice, showing both power and polish. Decanting brings out its full complexity, and it will continue to evolve beautifully over the next several years.

From Backsberg (Paarl, South Africa), the “Pumphouse Shiraz” is made primarily from Shiraz (with small additions of Malbec in some vintages) matured for around 12–18 months in small French/American oak barrels.
