André van Rensburg Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot 2020
This Cabernet-Merlot blend shows deep, ripe dark-fruit aromas — think cassis and blackberry — layered with oak-derived notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate it is full-bodied yet refined, with polished tannins, a balanced structure, and a long, smooth finish combining fruit, savoury and earthy tones.

André van Rensburg’s Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot marries the bold fruit power of Stellenbosch with a classical Bordeaux-style elegance. Pouring a deep, inviting hue, it opens with a cascade of dark berries, cassis and blackcurrant, underpinned by more subtle soil-driven tones of tobacco, forest-floor, cocoa and dried herbs. The oak ageing brings soft spice and a gently chocolatey richness, but never overwhelms — instead it frames the fruit beautifully and adds structure. On the palate it feels generous and well-balanced: lush and concentrated at first, then evolving into smooth, refined tannins and a persistent finish where fruit, earth and savoury wood harmonise. It’s a wine that already delivers pleasure now, but has enough backbone to evolve gracefully over several years — perfect with a roast, a hearty stew or a mature cheese board.
The André van Rensburg Cabernet Sauvignon‑Merlot is a blend of ~67 % Cabernet Sauvignon, ~22 % Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Malbec, matured 18 months in French oak barriques (about half new) in Stellenbosch, South Africa
