Gradis’Ciutta Friulano Collio is a beautifully representative wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, made organically using 100% Friulano (formerly known locally as Tocai Friulano). The vines grow in the “ponca” soils of Collio — marl-limestone mix — at altitudes between 120-180 m, which lend striking mineral character and freshness. After a gentle pressing and a 24-48 hour cold maceration, fermentation in steel tanks and aging “sur lie” build roundness and texture without losing vibrancy. Expect aromas of acacia flowers, sweet almonds, pear and yellow stone fruit. On the palate it is full-bodied and juicy yet balanced with a saline minerality and a long, almond-tinged finish. A wine that’s floral and refined, but with enough structure to pair nicely with food.
The Friulano vines grow at 50-220 metres altitude, cultivated in the Ponca soils of the region. After harvesting the grapes are softly pressed, macerated for 24-48 hours at low temperature and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine ages on fine lees for around 6 months until bottling.
