El Coto Crianza feels like a warm embrace from Rioja — Tempranillo grapes from limestone and clay soils, smoothly fermented in stainless steel, then matured in American oak barrels for a year and rested in bottle for six months.
The nose greets you with vibrant red cherries and strawberries mingled with vanilla and gentle toast.
When you taste it, there’s a silky texture, bright fruit, a touch of cinnamon-spice, and soft, ripe tannins that round off in a juicy, lingering finish.
It works brilliantly with tapas, roast meat or cheese — and even in half-bottle form, it feels wonderfully generous and approachable.
El Coto was founded in '70 in Rioja Alavesa and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the best known Rioja producers. Today El Coto has over 700 hectares of vineyard in production across the three Rioja DOCa sub-zones of Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. They also source grapes from all three areas, but mostly from Rioja Alavesa. Head winemaker César Fernandez oversees production, starting with hand picking into 350 kilogram crates to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in pristine condition. Modern and intelligently designed, the emphasis in the winery is on temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes.
