Dow’s 10-Year-Old Tawny Port undergoes an incredible transformation as it ages in barrels, where air and wood work their magic. Over time, about 25% of the original volume evaporates, concentrating flavours and aromas while creating a rich, complex character. Each barrel and vat—of various sizes—matures uniquely, requiring close attention from the master blender, cellar master, and coopers to ensure a beautifully balanced result.
Dow’s Aged Tawnies have a distinct identity, striking a harmony between refined wood notes and bright, fruity flavours. To create this unique profile, Dow’s ages part of their Tawny Port in large, seasoned oak balseiros, with capacities from 5,000 to 10,000 litres. This method preserves more of the wine's fruitiness and deep colour while limiting the loss of intensity over time. Combined with Dow’s signature dry style, these Tawnies stand out with a refined, sophisticated character that’s unmistakably Dow’s.
Tasting Notes
This Port shows a deep russet core with a garnet edge and hints of amber. The nose opens with vibrant aromas of red cherry and almond, balanced by warm notes of toffee and vanilla. On the palate, it’s rich and mouth-filling, featuring peppery spice and a hint of marmalade, leading to a full, satisfying finish with Dow’s signature dry edge.
Storage and Serving
Dow’s 10-Year-Old Tawny is an excellent companion to sweet desserts like apple pie or chocolate mousse. Serve slightly chilled, and once opened, it will remain fresh for up to one month.
For more than two centuries, Dow’s has been synonymous with exceptional Ports from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. Since 1912, when Andrew James Symington joined as a partner, five generations of Symington winemakers have cultivated their vineyards at Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, producing many remarkable wines—including the only 21st-century Vintage Port to achieve a perfect 100-point score.
