World-Class Wildeberg
Wildeberg (‘wild mountain’)
is literally a place ‘on the edge’ of Franschhoek
and the mountains themselves.
Franschhoek, meaning ‘French corner’ in Dutch,
harks back to the late-17th century
when French Huguenots fled here.

Wildeberg is a 144ha wine farm at the foothills of the dramatic Franschhoek mountains,
situated in the south-eastern corner of the Cape’s venerable Coastal Region.
It's on the very fringes of viticultural possibilities;
being guided by place, the soil science and topography
to determine which cultivars to grow on this land.
The farm itself now comprises 7ha of young vines
with some already delivering wines with a unique charisma and charm.
To farm here you must be in tune with nature,
respecting the earth and the elements,
creating wines which truly express the terroir with minimal intervention.
Wildeberg do their best to reflect this with their ‘feet up’ approach to winemaking;
all of their wines undergo natural and spontaneous fermentation
using only wild, indigenous yeasts,
this allows them to capture the purest expression of the region,
gently guiding the wines from vineyard to bottle.

Beyond the farm, Wildeberg acts as a watchtower for the Western Cape;
a prism to which good things come and from which great things flow ...
Their aim is to identify, then express, sites of specific interest by sourcing exceptional fruit
from the wider Western Cape, teaming up with the right partners
that enable them to make the distinctive wine styles and quality they value so highly.
Most of their grower suppliers are now second and third generation,
reinforcing their longstanding partnerships and their belief in long-term sustainability.
These collaborations and the knowledge they’ve amassed over time
help them to make authentic and unique wines that champion regionality.

Wildeberg’s ongoing commitment to sustainability
is reflected in their approach to everything they do;
all wines are certified as part of South Africa’s sustainability accreditation,
the ‘Integrated Production of Wine’ (IPW) system.
Wildeberg is also a proud member of the Cape’s Old Vine Project (OVP),
an initiative that encourages producers to farm as close to nature as possible
whilst raising awareness of the inherent potential of old vines
to produce both outstanding and expressive wines.
Wildeberg is one of the leading wineries working with Old-Vines,
sourcing blocks of vineyards which deserve individual expression,
ensuring these national treasures remain in the ground.
