La Masseria is deep, rich and concentrated. Opulent and intense, this full bodied red has aromas of ripe red fruits, and soft texture and spicy finish. We love Primitivo - it's the grape we look for on restaurant wine lists because it's never fails to deliver. A perfect bottle for a rainy Friday night.

The grapes for this wine come from flat-lying vineyards around the Puglia hills, near to the sea, planted at altitudes no higher than 100 metres above sea level. The Guyot-trained vines are planted in low vigour soils. The grapes were hand picked to ensure careful selection.

This wine is made by the Liberty Wines' winemaking team in a privately owned and modern winery in the Salento peninsula. Our brief to the winemakers was simple: we wanted a clean, fresh and vibrant Primitivo that is both modern and typical of the variety. In order to achieve these objectives, the winemakers selected the fruit from the best parcels on the estate, ensuring ripeness but no shrivelling (as this gives raisiny fruit and harsh tannins to the wine).

2018 brought some normality back to La Masseria, with yields returning to average after two low years. Summer was windy with a few hot weeks and some heavy bouts of rainfall. Despite this, the grapes matured well. Grapes were picked by hand, then fermented at low temperatures to retain freshness. The tank was checked daily to ensure the amount of tannin extraction was right. The wine was aged in stainless-steel tanks until the final blend was assembled.
