WHY LEKKER WINES...?
Lekker is an informal South African word meaning good, pleasant, cool. The Afrikaans word literally translated from Dutch is ‘delicious’. And that was the aim, to source delicious wines to get you ‘lekker’ in the mood for the weekend!
We're a small team who do a lot of drinking. Our combined drinking experience definitely makes up for the fact we can't put Est. 1878 on our website, but we wanted to create a website that was easy to use and sold wines that we want to drink! Is that too much to ask? We didn't think so. Thus, Lekker Wines was born.
Once you open yourself up to the world of wine, there are so many great wines to discover. We have used our years of expertise to carefully curate a list which we think will appeal to just about everyone - selecting our very favourite wines at great prices, to take some of the hard work out for you. If we don’t think you’ll like it, we don’t stock it! But don't worry if you're stuck, we are just an email away if you need any advice in choosing the wine style that suits you.
We are complete fizz addicts and so we have selected a very varied range of Champagne and sparkling wine. From light and easy pinks and Proseccos, we go all the way to red with Lambrusco and Sparkling Shiraz with some stunning ‘propa’ Champagnes in between. You might find some absolute gems that you may not have heard of before, but we're confident they'll go down a treat!
Our choices for our Mixed cases come from our experience in wine retail where we match style and budget to the occasion at hand. If you don’t see what you like, or if you feel like you need a bit of advice, feel free to email us and we will be happy to help you create the perfect case for your tastes. Mixed cases always come with a cheeky little discount!
We also care where our wine comes from, so we have included a selection of sustainable wines. Just like any other crop, grapes can be subjected to all manner of chemicals, as well as high levels of preservatives such as Sulphites, which contribute to hangovers and headaches. Organic to the rescue! Certification means that harmful chemicals are banned, and sulphites have to be slashed in half, so you can hold your head high - headache free*! *Results may vary!
We also have a large range of vegan wines: Wine is just made from grapes, right? WRONG. Some wine producers will use all sorts to get their wine looking crystal clear - egg whites...isinglass (that's fish bladders)....not exactly compatible with a vegan diet! So we've selected some of our favourite vegan wines to help you find the right wines for you.
When it comes to gifting, we always say: "If you can't eat it, drink it or bath in it, you don't need it!" Wine makes a great gift and we offer single bottle shipping with Royal Mail to make gift giving that bit easier. We can also pop in a card with your personal greeting.
